The project.

The pgnApp enables fast digitization and management of chess games.

Paper score sheets for individual games or entire tournaments can be easily captured and saved for further use. The capture process is technically supported by AI and can also be used internationally.

A website with an online shop as well as the app itself were developed. Various technologies were used to ensure smooth functionality. The implementation is based on WordPress using modern technologies such as MariaDB, React and Tailwind.

After purchasing the service in the integrated online shop and registering, users gain access to the application. The conversion of the paper score sheet into a PGN file is done using a React app integrated into the frontend. The uploaded images are then sent to an external API, which reads the image content using artificial intelligence and passes it on to the application. This allows the application to detect errors on the chess score sheets and offer suggestions for improvement. The interaction is highly dynamic and offers the ability to edit any move and calculate the subsequent moves from it.

Uploads and game data are stored on a server in WebP and JSON formats so they can be used for the AI evaluation.

Design & concept

The design for the multilingual website aims to give users a quick overview of the app's features. A user-friendly design is especially important here, to ensure simple and intuitive operation.

The pgnApp stands out from conventional chess apps and websites through its clear, fresh and modern design. As part of the design concept, a new logo was created, along with appealing design elements, brand colors and fonts that form the basis for the visual identity of the website and app.

The app's operating concept was developed with a step-by-step workflow in mind, which is especially beneficial on small screens. This allows users to always keep track and effortlessly achieve the app's main goal: a streamlined workflow with minimal effort.

Website & app

Users can manage their games via a dashboard. A sharing feature also enables collaboration with other users, which is a particularly convenient simplification for clubs and tournaments.

Online shop

The integrated online shop offers the service in various package sizes, making the offering attractive both for individual users and for tournaments.
