The project.

The independent, non-profit FZI Research Center for Information Technology acts as a neutral interface between science and industry, turning the latest findings in information technology into practical solutions for companies and public institutions. As part of this mission, FZI is also involved in the government-funded CYBERsicher project, which aims to improve cybersecurity among small and medium-sized enterprises by providing a range of services.

Within this project, FZI was responsible for developing the CYBERsicher Notfallhilfe (emergency aid), a web application for connecting with IT service providers in the event of an acute IT security incident. eyeworkers was commissioned to develop the frontend.

Main functions of the web application

The web application covers three main functions: first, users who suspect an IT security incident are guided through a questionnaire and receive an assessment of whether action is needed. Second, users who have confirmed they are the victim of a cyberattack can publish the key details of the incident in the form of a listing, so that — third — IT service providers can respond with concrete offers of help.

Instead of user management, access to the services is handled via tokens. This allows companies as well as private individuals to find a suitable IT service provider quickly and with low barriers to entry in the event of a cyberattack.

Technology

The backend was developed in-house by FZI, while eyeworkers took charge of the frontend and user interface (UI) development. We chose React for the implementation, which enables powerful, interactive and scalable web applications. TypeScript was used for typing, making the code easier to maintain and extend.

User interface

The application's user interface follows the design of the existing Transferstelle CYBERsicherheit website. The web application is responsive and therefore fully usable on all devices.
