When the TYPO3 community invites to a BarCamp, it is marked in our calendars, and the delegation is clear: Andreas, a seasoned veteran of Cämps (often found recently in Dresden), and Manu, whose last major TYPO3 appearance was at the TYPO3 Awards Gala in Düsseldorf.

In BarCamp Mode

For those unfamiliar with the format: A BarCamp is an unconference. There is no rigid plan. The sessions are proposed and democratically chosen by the participants in the morning.

In selecting sessions, our duo had a clear goal: maximum knowledge gain. To take in as much input as possible, the two attended different sessions in parallel. During the lunch break, they exchanged ideas, sharing the highlights of the morning directly with each other.

TYPO3 v14: The Turbo for Editorial Work

A prominent topic was the new main version v14, which promises more efficiency in everyday editorial work. Instead of getting lost in complex click paths, innovations such as overlay editing and the guided translation assistant facilitate a smoother workflow. Changes can now be made directly without lengthy reloads, and the localization of content becomes more intuitive.

Especially handy: Features like QR code and short link generators are now integrated directly, making external tools unnecessary.

AI and the Revolution through MCP Servers

Of course, the topic of artificial intelligence was also addressed. While applications such as generating texts in plain language or automatically creating alt texts for images have almost become standard, one topic particularly excited us:

MCP Servers (Model Context Protocol).

Imagine AI agents acting as independent users. They book appointments or purchase products for you. For this to work as smoothly as possible, the website needs an interface to communicate with the AI agents: the MCP server.

Why MCP Servers?

1. Structured Interaction: Thanks to MCP servers, the error-prone tracking of click paths by the AI agent is eliminated. AI agents communicate directly with the MCP server, making processes more efficient.

2. Competitive Advantage: AI agents are programmed for efficiency. Therefore, an agent will always choose the shop or service provider with which it can communicate and interact most easily via MCP servers.

3. Internal Benefit: Even in the TYPO3 backend, AI agents can take over time-consuming tasks via the MCP server, such as the automated transfer of content from PDFs directly into structured content blocks.

Conclusion? Ready for What’s Coming

The visit to Heidelberg once again demonstrated: TYPO3 does not stand still. The combination of a strong core development (v14) and visionary topics like the MCP server ensures that we can continue to offer our clients state-of-the-art solutions in the future.

Andreas and Manu returned with full notebooks. The insights will now be incorporated into our current projects. We are already looking forward to the next time it will be: Cämp-Time!
