Raumfabrik Durlach.
Digital site presentation with an interactive 3D map
The project.
On the well-known Raumfabrik site in Karlsruhe Durlach, some 80,000 sqm of commercial space is home to companies from a wide range of industries. The business park, set on a former industrial site, offers excellent infrastructure and, alongside state-of-the-art loft-style offices, also features restaurants and event spaces.
Our task was to make the site "experienceable" for tenants, visitors and prospective clients beyond the region, and to showcase the great variety of resident companies and the different architectural styles found across the park. The centerpiece of the new website is the interactive 3D map, developed by eyeworkers with a database connection. eyeworkers first designed an intuitive interaction concept that allows a targeted search for individual companies on the site, while also showing all the companies located in a single building. A company search by industry is possible too.
The 3D objects on the map were created with the 3D tool Blender. The JavaScript library THREE.JS was used for rendering and interaction. The map can be rotated a full 360 degrees and is zoomable. It can also be used on smartphones via touch and zoom gestures. Each building can be clicked individually to display a list of all companies based there, which the client easily maintains through the WordPress CMS. No direct editing of the 3D map is necessary — all the required data is managed through the backend. A further link provides background information on the building, such as its year of construction or design features. A tutorial on 3D on the web can be found on our blog: www.eyeworkers.de/blog-detail/3d-im-web
The map also offers great added value for resident tenants. Using an interactive legend, they can quickly find bicycle parking, emergency meeting points, underground garage entrances, as well as nearby bakeries, daycare centers, restaurants or doctors' offices.
The website provides tenants with an internal area featuring a booking tool, through which shared event and conference rooms, as well as an allotment garden adjoining the site with barbecue facilities for team events, can be booked.
