The project.

The LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur in Münster presents and manages artworks from the early Middle Ages to the present day.

With the "Sammlung Online" microsite, visitors get an additional offering alongside the museum's website and can currently explore 5,500 works online. The challenge was to use an external database to create a dynamic platform where the online collection could be regularly updated and expanded. This was successfully achieved by implementing an interface to Axiell. Axiell is a software solution for managing and structuring data that helps organizations such as cultural institutions (libraries, archives, museums, and educational institutions) manage their collections, catalog objects, or handle the loan of media.

Easy research within the digital collection

The search feature is a central component of the online collection. Thanks to extensive filter options, search queries can be narrowed down precisely and results found more effectively. Detailed information is available not only for individual works, but also biographical background on many of the artists.

The museum's current thematic focuses and special exhibitions are presented and summarized in so-called "albums." There is also a personal area that lets users save and share their own watchlists and personal albums.

The website was implemented as a multisite with TYPO3. A further online collection for the LWL-Freilichtmuseum Detmold is currently being implemented.
